STAFF and residents of Eastbourne Mencap’s registered residential care home in the town received a boost from MP Stephen Lloyd last weekend when he joined Rotary Club of Beachy Head members in officially opening a new raised flowerbed and sensory garden.
Construction of the garden project was funded by local donations and worked on by the Rotarians themselves. It has just received a final planting out by the club prior to the summer and the MP was on hand, along with Eastbourne Mencap chief executive officer Peter Plowman, to unveil a commemorative plaque in the garden of the home in Arundel Road. The charity has been dedicated to supporting local people with learning difficulties for more than 60 years and enjoys a reputation for being one of the most active and forward thinking organisations of its type in the county.
He said, “I think Mencap in Eastbourne is doing a fantastic job and I know staff work tremendously hard to brighten the lives as well as care for their residents. They also rely on the kind and generous support of local people to continue the good work and this sensory garden is a nice addition, well done the Beachy Head Club.”
