Eastbourne MP Caroline Ansell visited the catering department at Eastbourne DGH to see and taste the food patients eat.
Caroline said she was very impressed by the catering operation.
She said, “It was great to meet the team behind what is the biggest catering operation in town.
“They were really passionate about the food, the service and the experience they provide. I got to try the chicken tikka masala which was very tasty.”
Linda Griffiths, catering manager said, “It was good to have the opportunity to show Caroline how we provide meals for patients and cater for their varying dietary needs.
“We are pleased to be able to offer patients a wide variety of menu choice each day for every lunch and supper. The feedback from patients is continually very positive with satisfaction levels constantly high above 98 percent for choice and quality.
“We are very aware the positive contribution our meals can make towards a patient’s recovery and the overall quality of their experience whilst in hospital.”
The Trust’s catering services team work in partnership with a company called Steamplicity, which supply meals to around 40 other NHS Trusts across the country.
Patients choose their meal from a menu on the day. Using a unique cooking system that steams food in around four minutes on the ward, the patient menu choice is presented to them at their bedside.
All menus choices are approved by the Trusts dieticians and kitchens cater for any specific individual diets.
