MP goes on the beat in Eastbourne

MP Caroline Ansell concentrated on policing issues last week with a stint on the beat in Eastbourne and a briefing by the Police and Crime Commissioner in Westminster.

District Commander Emma Brice accompanied Mrs Ansell on patrol in the town on Friday afternoon and the pair were able to discuss issues with local people.

In Westminster, the MP was briefed by the Sussex PCC Katy Bourne and chief constable Giles York about the police budget, the local policing model and restorative justice.

Mrs Ansell said, “I was very encouraged by the level of support the police have locally and the experience shown by DC Brice.

“Even after such a short time on the beat, it was clear to me that the range of issues the police deal with is immense and we are in good hands.

“I am thankful to DC Brice and all her team for the wonderful job they do and I am looking forward to going out again, perhaps in the evening, to see the support they give to the night time economy.

“It was also important to get a full briefing at a more strategic level on the issues facing Sussex Police force-wide,” Caroline added.

“These are difficult times for all public services as the country tries to reduce the deficit, and I was pleased that both the PCC and chief constable are doing an effective job of ensuring we are kept safe using the resources that are available.”
