EASTBOURNE MP Stephen Lloyd is the latest to comment on 15-year-old schoolgirl Megan Stammers who is believed to have run away to France with her maths teacher from Bishop Bell.
Police believe Megan went off to France willingly with 30-year-old Jeremy Forrest on Thursday night (September 20) - sparking a cross-Channel search for the pair.
Heartfelt appeals have been made by her parents who are desperate to get their daughter back home.
While Bishop Bell was investigating a relationship between the two before they eloped, the executive head teacher of the school, Terry Boatwright, has said he was ‘shocked’ by the incident.
Stephen Lloyd, Eastbourne’s Liberal Democrat MP, said, “My profound concern goes out to Megan and her parents. I can see how incredibly difficult and upsetting this must be.
“We are all praying that the sooner Megan comes back to Eastbourne the better.”
Megan and Jeremy Forrest are thought to be travelling in France in his black Fiesta. There have been a number of unconfirmed sighting in France since police launched the appeal.
Mr Lloyd added, “I have spoken to Bishop Bell and I have had a briefing with the police.
“I know Bishop Bell well and I’m confident that their procedures have been exemplary.
“I’m glad that they are conducting a report into this and I look forward to seeing that once it is completed.”
