MP backing plans for new bridge at Exceat

Plans for a new bridge across the River Cuckmere at Exceat have been supported by Lewes MP Maria Caulfield.

The proposals, put forward to the Government by East Sussex County Council, follow a successful trial of traffic lights during last summer’s Airbourne in Eastbourne

If given the green light by the Government, it is expected that the ‘second Exceat Bridge’ would relieve traffic flow on the A259, improve journey times and accessibility across the south coast.

Ms Caulfield said, “The majority of my constituents that have taken a journey on the A259 between Seaford and East Dean will be aware of the build-up of traffic along this stretch of road as it approaches the Exceat Bridge.

“Like many areas of infrastructure within my constituency, there has been a severe lack of investment for decades, and I am pleased to see East Sussex County Council taking action to right this wrong. Feedback on the bid that has been put forward to the Government is expected in the spring, and I will continue to keep my constituents updated.”
