A 75-YEAR-OLD man has died in a crash after he was taken ill at the wheel on Tuesday lunchtime (February 15).
The Eastbourne pensioner was driving a Vauxhall Astra along Paradise Drive when he left the road, hit a bank and rolled the car. Police said the man is believed to have been taken ill at the wheel. No other vehicles were involved in the fatal collision but damage was caused to a roadside barrier.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.15pm.
Firefighters and ambulance crews released the man from the car but he was declared dead just after 2pm.
Police put road closures in place while rescue and recovery work took place.
