HUNTERS Moon Morris Dancers did their bit for the earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan by collecting £1,100 at the weekend.
The morris men and women pulled a Japanese flag in a trolley and danced their way through Eastbourne town centre and up to the town’s pier, collecting money for the British Red Cross on their way.
The fundraiser started at Bankers’ Corner at around 11am on Saturday (March 19).
The sun shone as shoppers flocked to watch the dancers and put money in their collection bucket.
Pip Faulkner from Hunters Moon said, “The response from the public was overwhelming and absolutely staggering. We couldn’t believe how many people gave money.
“We had £20 notes and handfuls of pound coins put in our buckets.
“Children, the elderly and the very disabled put money in the collection buckets. Everyone said how pleased they were that we had given them a way to donate to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami. Some of them got very emotional.
“It really was a phenomenal three hours.”
