POLICE searching for a missing Lewes man have found his rucksack near Beachy Head.

Nicholas Oakley, pictured, aged 40 and from North Way, Lewes, has not been seen since he was reported missing on November 11.

Police publicly appealed for information about him on November 19 but no sightings were reported until walkers on New Year’s Day came across his rucksack in undergrowth off a clifftop path off Upper Dukes Avenue behind St Bede’s School.

Personal contents of the rucksack identified it as his.

Detective Inspector Mark O’Brien said, “The area was searched but no body has been found and we have to remain open minded, but naturally there are fears that Nicholas may have come to harm and our enquiries continue.”

Nicholas is described as white, 5ft 8in tall, with green eyes, cropped, mousy, straight hair, clean shaven, medium build and possibly wearing a shell necklace, jeans and a T-shirt.

If anyone has information regarding Nicholas’ whereabouts over recent weeks they should contact police immediately, by calling 0845 6070999 quoting serial 533 of 11/11.
