Dear Reader

Welcome to your new-look Herald.

We’ve given ourselves an autumn makeover this week - but this is your newspaper and we want you to enjoy it as much as possible.

We look a little different - our company used some top design experts to create a crisp and fresher appearance - and we have also introduced a host of new features.

The biggest change of all is the addition of a 16-page entertainments and what’s on section, called The Guide, starting today on page 57.

Each week, it will bring you better-than-ever coverage of the theatre, music and arts scenes, as well as cinema news and gardening pages.

And for puzzle lovers, there is a new two-page spread. on 68 and 69, to tickle those brain cells.

You will also find inside more letters and comment (pages 6,7,8 and 9) more nostalgia (page 53), a new “Friday feature” slot on pages 48 and 49, and two additional pages of sport, making nine in total.

What’s most important to us is keeping the Herald as your newspaper. So please do tell us what you think, or what else you would enjoy in our pages.

To celebrate your new-look Herald, we will be out and about during the next few weeks, meeting you, talking to you- and finding out what you think.

And today, Friday, we will be giving away money. Yes, money and other goodies!

We’ll be at the Arndale Centre from 10am, when MP Stephen Lloyd will join us to mark our relaunch.

Then from 10.30am, the give-away will get underway on a first come basis. We will have 500 envelopes to hand out, each containing either a crisp £5 note, or a lottery ticket, or another prize.

Other freebies will include vouchers from ESK, £50 towards a meal at Pomodoro and Mozzarella, an overnight stay at the Cavendish Hotel, and hairdressing treats from Icon.

Don’t miss out!

Keith Ridley, Editor.
