Meeting date for bonfire society’s major town event

Plans are well underway for the annual Eastbourne Bonfire Society Procession and Fireworks.

A meeting is being held this month for people wishing to take part in the spectacular and members of the society are hoping as many organisations, business and interested individuals will attend.

Last year thousands of people attended the bonfire procession and fireworks on Eastbourne seafront at the beginning of October.

Organisers are hoping this year’s free event will attract more crowds as well as people wishing to take part.

David Oliver from the society said, “Free events such as the ever popular Bonfire procession will only survive with the involvement of the community and local businesses.

“With this in mind Eastbourne Bonfire Society members are staging a presentation regarding this year’s Bonfire Procession and Fireworks at the Crown and Anchor, Marine Parade, on Tuesday February 26 from 7.30pm–9pm.

“The evening will feature a range of speakers from the Eastbourne Bonfire Society Eastbourne Borough Council, the community, charities and businesses followed by a full buffet.

“Eastbourne Bonfire Society is for the community, by the community, supporting local charities.”

Among those speaking at the event will be Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd, the town’s mayor Mike Thompson as well as representatives from the council, the emergency services, Rotary and Lions clubs, the Hospitality Association, businesses, charities and youth organisations.

Anyone wishing to attend can contact Mr Oliver on 721384 or email him

The bonfire season begins in earnest in September when members of the Eastbourne society take part in processions across the county.
