NELLIE Condon celebrated her 103rd birthday with friends at the Palm Court Hotel.
Mrs Condon held a lunch with committee members of the East Sussex Disability Association – of which she has been a member since 1994 – at the hotel in Burlington Place on January 25. She moved to Eastbourne with her husband from Hastings after the Second World War and worked as a nurse at St Mary’s Hospital in Old Town well into her 70s. Eastbourne mayor Carolyn Heaps, who also worked as a nurse at the hospital before it closed, said, “She’s absolutely great, amazing really. We had a lovely lunch and I read a letter to her from our local MP which she was delighted with.” Mrs Condon was born on January 29, 1908 in Tower Hamlets, London. She married in Shoreditch Church in 1929 and has one son, two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
