Residents, staff and former colleagues filled the residents’ lounge of the Queen Alexandra Cottage Homes to mark the retirement of Gill Thomas as matron of the care wing.
Gifts and flowers were presented to Gill on behalf of those present by her successor as matron, Simone Mills, who has been her deputy for the past four years.
Gill came to the homes 16 years ago as an enrolled nurse. In her time at the homes she has seen the care wing grow from a unit of 18 beds to the current 28.
Simone joined the care wing nine years ago as a part-time night nurse.
Gill is now continuing her link with the homes as a part-time nursing sister.
Gill and her colleagues enjoyed a tea party to mark her retirement after 16 years of long service.
