A 999 call from a man who said he was lost on the beach and had taken an overdose prompted a massive search in the early hours of this morning (May 20).
Three RNLI lifeboats, two coastguard teams, police officers and ambulance services were involved in the search.
The call came in at around 1.30am via the ambulance service from a man who said he was lost on the beach somewhere near Eastbourne and had taken an overdose.
Unsure of his location, RNLI Lifeboats were launched from Newhaven and Eastbourne to search the shoreline.
Both Eastbourne lifeboats scoured the shore from Sovereign Harbour to Beachy Head while the Newhaven crew searched the area west of Beachy Head.
Meanwhile coastguard officers were searching the cliff top and beaches.
At 3am the man was located in Eastbourne town centre by police officers and the volunteer crews stood down.
