OCTOGENARIAN Janet Webber has raised more than £500 for the Mother’s Union Wheels Appeal.
Janet, who lives in Clifford Avenue, swam 50 lengths at the David Lloyd Club to raise cash for the appeal, which provides transport and help with repairs for Mothers Union workers abroad.
Janet said, “They have to visit their members and help to set up small farming projects or help families in trouble, often travelling hundreds of miles in very rough country and in all sorts of conditions.
“I did my swim at the David Lloyd Club in rather cold conditions as their boiler had broken down.
“Several other much younger women came in to the pool but only stayed for a few minutes while I did my promised 50 lengths which took me 45 minutes.
“I usually swim 30 to 40 lengths at the club twice a week.”
Janet has visited Mothers Union workers in Kericho, a district in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya.
