Man’s body lay undiscovered in Eastbourne flat

A man’s body was found in his Eastbourne flat in February after neighbours became concerned because they hadn’t seen him since Christmas.

Brian Hawkes’ body was found when police broke down the door of his flat in Langney Road on February 9 this year.

Seventy-four-year-old Mr Hawkes, who was originally from Chatham, had been dead in the flat for some time and the inquest was told his body had decomposed.

At an inquest at Eastbourne Town Hall on Thursday (August 27), East Sussex coroner Alan Craze was told police had not been able to discover any of Mr Hawkes family.

Mr Craze recorded a verdict of natural causes.
