Police are appealing for witnesses after a 53-year-old woman was attacked in Eastbourne on Friday (September 11).

The victim had been out with friends in the Marine pub and Buskers Bar before she started walking home alone along Gilbert Road. At around 10.45pm, someone grabbed her hair from behind and slammed her head onto a gate’s brick wall post, causing nasty scratches and grazing to her right cheek.

She saw someone wearing a hoodie running back towards Seaside.

PC Thomas Thorpe said, “This was a random and nasty attack which has left the victim understandably shaken.

“We would like anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area to get in touch.”

Witnesses can email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting reference 0016 of 12/09.
