Man charged with assaulting pensioner during Eastbourne Pier fire

A 39-year-old is to appear in court charged with assaulting a man who asked him to stop swearing in Eastbourne.

The 81-year-old victim was sitting in Grand Parade watching the fire on Eastbourne Pier at about 4.30pm on July 30 when he asked a man standing nearby not to swear. He was then punched.

Bryan Rosewell, of Compton Street, Eastbourne, has been charged with assault.

Rosewell was released on bail to appear at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on August 20.

Among his bail conditions are not to go anywhere on Eastbourne Promenade until his next court appearance.
