Man charged with Eastbourne robbery and burglary

A man has been charged with robbing a betting shop, and with a house burglary in which the occupant was attacked, both in Eastbourne.

Jamie Gooch, 18, of Moore Park, Hailsham, was arrested on Wednesday (February 17) by East Sussex detectives and appeared in custody at Brighton Magistrates Court on Friday (February 19) charged with robbery at Ladbrokes on Tuesday, February 9, in which £5,500 was stolen at knifepoint.

No money has so far been recovered.

He was also charged with the burglary in Salehurst Road, Eastbourne, on Thursday evening (February 4) in which the 25-year-old occupant was punched and hit with a blunt instrument suffering cuts and bruises. It is believed an i-Pad was taken from the property.

Gooch was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on March 17.

Police enquiries continue to trace a man described as white, about 25 with brown curly hair, stubble and wearing a dark jacket, in respect of the burglary.

Enquiries continue to trace a man believed to have been involved in the betting shop robbery offence, described as white, of slim build, in his twenties, about 5ft 11ins tall, wearing a grey hoody covering his head, a dark coloured scarf around his face and gloves.

Anyone who witnessed either of the incidents or has any information is asked to email [email protected] or call 101, quoting serial 1558 of 09/02 for the robbery or serial 1615 of 04/02 for the burglary.
