Man arrested after serious collision in Eastbourne

A man has been arrested after a serious collision in Eastbourne town centre this afternoon (Friday).

Emergency services were called to the incident involving a car and pedestrian in Station Street just after midday.

An air ambulance landed nearby at The Saffrons and the pedestrian, a woman, was taken to Conquest Hospital in Hastings.

Her injuries were said to be serious but not life-changing, according to police.

Sussex Police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a specified drug over a specified limit, and on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He remains in police custody at this stage.

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service said, “We were called shortly before midday today to reports a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.

“Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by the air ambulance service.

“A woman was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to Conquest Hospital as a priority. The woman was conscious at the scene.”
