Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted knifepoint robbery in High Street, Westham, on Monday (December 7).

At around 10.45am a man walked into the Post Office and placed a bag on the counter before asking the victim to fill it with money. She said she did not have the keys to the till and the suspect then unzipped his jacket to show the tip of a knife.

The shop worker then pressed the alarm and the man walked out empty-handed in the direction of Pevensey Castle.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and released on conditional bail until January 10, 2016.

Detective Sergeant Ross Bartlett said, “The robbery took place in broad daylight and we would like to speak with anyone who may have seen something.

“Witnesses can email or call 101 quoting reference 0431 of 07/12.”
