The A27 was closed in both directions following a serious accident on Saturday (May 4).
Two vehicles were involved in the crash at around 11.20am at Drusilla’s roundabout.
Police attended and closed the road between the zoo and the A2270 Polegate by-pass. Fire crews were called to the scene as one person was trapped in their car and two others were unable to get out due to the injuries they has sustained.
The firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the casualties.
It took until 12.45 to free all three people from their vehicles.
Fire crews remained on scene until 1.20pm.
Bank holiday motorists leaving Eastbourne via Polegate were unable to use the road out to Lewes and the crash caused disruption in the area. There were reports of delays on the A259 too, as drivers avoided the scene.
The road was opened by police later that afternoon.
