Members of Eastbourne Lions Club visited Eastbourne Rugby Football Club to check out the new under 15s strip it helped get funding for.

Lion Richard Cook and members of the Community Services Committee had arranged a grant to purchase the new strip.

Eastbourne Under 15’s squad is a highly enthusiastic and a hugely friendly bunch of players, well supported and assisted by their parents.

The team has competed in the Sussex A league in their age group for the last three years and just returned from a tour to the Bournemouth area where they were successful in winning the 2013 Burleigh Travel Tourist Trophy in one of the tournaments they entered.

Team captain Owen Davies said, “The team members were really impressed with the new shirts and think they are amazing. We wore them for the first time on our recent tour to Bournemouth and all the other teams thought they were great. On behalf of the team I’d like to say a massive thank you to the Eastbourne Lions for their fantastic support.”

Coach Simon Godin said, “I’d like to say a massive thank you to the Eastbourne Lions Club for their generosity in providing new shirts for the team.

“The U15 squad are a great bunch of lads who now look as good as they play.”

Team administrator Ann Davies said, “In many ways next year is crucial for us.

“Nationally 35 per cent of children who participate in organised sport drop out every year.

“By the age of 15, 75 per cent of youth no longer play or participate in any form of organised sports.

“The generosity and support of the Lions will be a massive boost for us in helping to keep a great bunch of players and a great team involved in organised sporting activity.”

A Lions spokesperson said, “Eastbourne Lions wish the team all success in the future.”
