Lifeboat called to stricken fishing boat


Lifeboat crews came to the aid of a stricken fishing vessel near the Cuckmere Haven on Friday afternoon (September 4).

Newhaven’s relief Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLI Daniel L Gibson’ and her volunteer crew were launched at 3.40pm to a broken down fishing vessel.

The 21ft dory fishing boat with one person on board was two miles south of the second of the Seven Sisters, east of Cuckmere Haven.

The small leisure fishing boat had suffered mechanical failure and had contacted Solent coastguards requesting assistance.

The lifeboat crew towed the vessel back to Newhaven Harbour.

The lifeboat return to station at 5.10pm.
