Dows Leisure Centre operator is lending its support to Blind Veterans UK through its Brighton to Paris Challenge which departed from Newhaven last Thursday (May 12).

As part of its continued commitment to the local community, causes and likeminded charities - Wave Leisure, which operates leisure centres across Sussex, has funded one of its team – Sarah Delaloye-Dean - to take part in the four-day, 148 mile bike ride from Ovingdean to the French capital.

The #CycleBeyond Challenge began at The Blind Veterans Headquarters in Ovingdean at 6am and headed towards Newhaven Port along the coast road with a timely pit stop at Newhaven Fort - Wave’s heritage site and visitor destination - for an early breakfast before catching the ferry across The Channel.

Once in Dieppe, the ride restarted and, for four consecutive days, cyclists rode through France before finishing at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

Sarah Delaloye-Dean, 49, has worked at Wave Leisure for more than 16 years and she jumped at the chance to support Blind Veterans UK and live up to her belief that it’s good for people to challenge themselves and broaden their horizons.

Sarah spoke about the challenge before she set off last week and said, “At Wave Leisure we really believe in putting something back into the community and our new CEO Duncan Kerr is very passionate about raising money for local charities too.

“I’m a bit worried about being on a saddle for long periods, I’ve never cycled this far in my life.”

Community backing means Sarah has already raised 138 per cent of her target but there is still time to help her raise even more for Blind Veterans UK, visit Sarah’s JustGiving Page at www.justgiving.com/Sarah-Delaloye-Dean.

So far the #CycleBeyond Brighton to Paris bike ride challenge has raised a total of £25,000 for the charity which helps blind servicemen and women.
