A student from Sussex Downs College has won the Eastbourne Law Society Claude Gordon Award for 2012/13.

Laura Grant, 19, from Eastbourne, received the award from Mark Williams, president of the Eastbourne Law Society and partner at Gaby Hardwicke Solicitors, who visited the college to present it.

Laura, who is studying law and politics A levels at the college, fought off competition from 10 other nominees to be chosen for the award, which the Eastbourne Law Society presents to students in recognition of excellence.

Mark said, “Claude Gordon was a local solicitor who assisted Eastbourne Law Society in establishing a fund for local educational purposes. The current committee decided that an annual award to the most deserving law student would be the perfect way to encourage academic excellence.

“I’m delighted to present the award to Laura who is clearly a worthy recipient. I am sure she has a great career ahead of her in the law.””

Sarah Parsons, lecturer in law at Sussex Downs College, said, “Laura has proven herself to be an outstanding student.”
