TODAY (Friday May 4) is the final day for people to enter this year’s Eastbourne Sunshine Carnival.

More than 50 organisations, businesses and community groups are taking part in the procession along Eastbourne seafront on Saturday, June 2 and carnival pageant master Dave Cooper is urging all those who want to take part to fill in their forms today.

The carnival is set to leave the Sovereign Centre at 7pm and go along the seafront up to the Western Lawns – and as well as motorised vehicles there will be walking groups, skaters and marching bands.

In addition, the search continues to find a Carnival King and Queen to take part in the proceedings.

The king and queen can be any person of any age living in the Eastbourne or surrounding areas and the Herald is hoping readers will nominate the people they want to see win the title. They will play a pivotal part in the procession and travel in open top cars during the parade.

Mr Cooper said, “We hope people will nominate their children, friends, mums, dads, grandchildren, grandparents, unsung heroes in the community – in fact anybody who they think deserves the accolade.”

Readers can nominate by filing in the form and sending it to Carnival King and Queen Competition, Eastbourne Herald, Berkeley House, 26 Gildredge Road, Eastbourne, BN21 4SA or e mail The closing date for entries for the carnival king and queen is Sunday May 12 and winners will be decided by judges including former carnival queens.

Entry forms are available from the Herald office in Lismore Road or email
