Major retailers in Eastbourne town centre and job-seeker specialist The People Matter Trust collaborated on a new trial recruitment morning.
Thirteen job-seekers selected by People Matter attended the event at The Grand Hotel at which six store managers explained the job and career opportunities in retail, followed by each job seeker being given a half-hour interview by one of the managers and the opportunity to be considered for jobs by any of the retailers who attended the event.
Within a week of the event six had been offered jobs and two more were provisionally offered positions when suitable vacancies arose. This higher than 50 per cent success rate from interviews to offers was deemed an outstanding result and a better average rate than the stores achieve either through their own recruitment initiatives or through the other traditional recruitment methods.
The trial was praised by the employers as the most successful recruitment event which any of them had ever participated in. New relationships are being developed with all the participating stores to provide job candidates on an ongoing basis.
The key to the success of the event is the service to employers which People Matter provides to its job seeker clients. Advisers spend a minimum of three hours with their clients, helping with CVs, action plans and a range of topics to enhance interview skills. Facilities include a dedicated job club computer suite where help is given on how to search on the internet for job vacancies and identify employment opportunities.
A morning for the care sector is now being planned and based upon the experience gained from the trial will help more job seekers secure work and give employers a new and very effective source for fulfilling their recruitment needs.
Ann Gillard, general manager of People Matter, said, “Employers are welcome to contact People Matter to discuss how we could help you reduce your recruitment costs, whilst also providing what is proven to be a very effective vetting and selection service for identifying candidates to fill both full time and part time job vacancies. All of the services and support which People Matter provides to its job seeker clients is absolutely free of charge. The charity relies for some of its funding on the goodwill of the local community to help people back into work and rebuild their lives. If you have ever experienced the isolation and stress of being out of work yourself or know anyone who has been through this we would be grateful for any donations, however small.
“You can come any time to visit us at our offices at 17 Gildredge Road to learn more about our work or to make a donation which will be used to help more local people to get back into employment.”
