The high street camera chain Jessops, is thought to be on the verge of administration putting thousands of jobs at risk nationwide.
Jessops opened a new, bigger store in the Arndale Centre in Eastbourne a few months ago, but reports have suggested the country’s only specialist chain could call in the administraroes putting more than 2,000 jobs at its 193 stores at risk.
The group has been struggling in the face of the increasing popularity of camera phones and the heavy discounting of digital cameras by online retailers.
The demise of Jessops, which was started by Frank Jessop in 1935, would be the first high street casualty of 2013, and comes soon after consumer electricals chain Comet hit the wall, sparking more than 6,000 job losses.
