From tranquil coastal strolls in Eastbourne and the South Downs to the culture and history of Lewes, dog friendly walks and nature walks, you will be sure to find a walk that’s suitable for you.

To get the Fest underway, Eastbourne’s Hydro Hotel, at Mount Road, is hosting inspirational talks on the joys of walking.

On Sunday September 3 at 3pm, people can enjoy an hour in the company of journalist, author and urban walking champion Terence Bensdixon.

Terence is President of Living Streets, formerly the Pedestrian Society, a charity which has promoted safe walking for nearly a century. Its campaigning led to the introduction of speed limits and zebra crossings.

In 1996, Living Streets launched Walk to School Week, which has since become one of Britain’s leading campaigns for changing the behaviour of children.

On Monday September 24, at 6.30pm, John palmer, The Earl of Selborne, will be at the Hydro to give a talk.

Known a The Curious Walker, John will be in conversation with Walk Fest director Antonia Luca in the Wedgewood Room.

John is an expert on apples, pears and hops, as well as being ab active member of the House of Lords.

He is a past President of the Royal Agricultural Society and as chair of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew.

John’s oncologist told him to get plenty of exercise, so he walked to each of the 44 cathedrals in England and is now starting on Wales.

He will share some of the pleasures, insights and adventures of walking.

Both talks are free with invited donations helping support the Eastbourne Downland Group.

To book, call The Hydro on 01323 720643.
