Hundreds attend expo on new cycle plans for town

Plans for six new cycle routes across the town were given a mixed response from members of the public who went along to the public exhibition and consultation at the Town Hall last week.

East Sussex County Council and Eastbourne Borough Council staged the two day event and more than 300 people passed through the doors.

The proposed new routes are the Railway Station to Ringwood Road, Lottbridge Drove to Langney roundabout, along the Promenade from the Wish Tower to Fisherman’s Green, the seafront to town centre via Cornfield Road, the University (Meads) to seafront and town centre and Eastbourne DGH to town centre via Commercial Road.

Mark Valleley at the county council said, “We were very pleased with the response from the people of Eastbourne. We received some really positive feedback about the proposals, and where people had concerns, such as those about the impact of the shared use scheme for pedestrians and cyclists on the seafront, we were able to address and discuss these issues. It was a really good opportunity to speak to people face to face about the proposals and the comments we’ve received will be valuable in enabling us to decide whether the proposals should be taken forward for detailed design and construction.”

The consultation ends at the end of the month.
