Police are appealing for information after lawn mowers worth more than £30,000 were stolen from Godfreys, a garden machinery specialist on the A22 at Lower Dicker.

Some time between 5.30pm on Thursday (May 14) and 6.45am the following day five John Deere X590 petrol lawn tractors and a 42-inch cutter deck were stolen.

It is believed that the burglars approached the business from Hackhurst Lane and travelled across fields at the rear of the property, cutting hedges to allow them to them to take the machines away.

A number of people would have been needed to move the mowers because of their size and weight.

PC Peter Clarke said, “Godfreys is located on a busy stretch of road so I would ask anyone who saw anything suspicious while travelling on it during the time of the incident to contact us.

“The thieves may have used chainsaws to cut through the hedging so these would have made a considerable amount of noise.”

Anyone with information, or who thinks they may have seen the items for sale, should email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk, call 101 quoting serial 269 of 15/05 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
