WINDMILL FUNDRAISER: Popular fifties and sixties music specialists Recycled played at Herstmonceux Village Hall to raise funds for the windmill at Windmill Hill on February 18. The band played all the old favourites and had everyone singing-along and dancing. The dance was organised by the Windmill Hill Windmill Trust (WHWT) which has just completed a twenty-year restoration programme taking the mill from derelict eyesore to fully operational windmill. Bee Frost from the WHWT said ‘Thanks so much to Recycled for playing at the dance and thanks to everyone who supported the event. We raised nearly £1,000 for the maintenance of the windmill. Do come and visit the mill in 2017, we would be very pleased to welcome you’.

The 2017 season will see the volunteer millers grinding corn into flour on a regular basis. The mill will be open on most Sundays from Easter to the end of October from 2.30pm to 5pm (check the website www.windmillhillwindmill.org for details). There are regular guided tours and a new visitor film. There is disabled access to the roundhouse and a virtual reality tour available. The WHWT hopes to organise more fundraising dances later in the year.

WINDMILL AGM: The WHWT Annual General Meeting followed by a presentation, Hailsham in Photographs, old and new, by Richard Goldsmith from the Hailsham Historical Society is at 7.30pm today, Friday, in the Herstmonceux Village Hall.
