YOUNG people at The Square Youth Café in Hailsham will be cooking up a storm after being awarded a £5,000 grant to install a new kitchen at the youth club.
The young people were awarded the grant by fellow teenagers at the East Sussex YouthBank after putting together a successful bid for the funding, including their designs for the new kitchen.
They applied for the funding back in October and received the money this month after reaching the final stage of bids.
Work will start at the end of February to revamp their cooking space including installing new kitchen units, a cooker and fridge. “The young people felt that the whole kitchen needed upgrading so that more people could use it for cooking,” said Andy Joyes, who runs the Square Youth Cafe.
“We offer cooked food and free evenings like tea and toast nights,” he added.
The Square Youth Cafe is free for anyone between the ages of 11 and 18, and provides a safe, supportive and environment for young people to meet.
