Hailsham woman, 58, died after fall

Diana Seeby passed away at the DGH on July 26 after being brought in due to a number of falls at her home in The Stringwalk, an inquest heard.

The inquest at Eastbourne Town Hall on Thursday (April 15), heard Mrs Seeby had a learning disability and a history of anxiety and depression.

Dr Savvakis Savvas told the inquest Mrs Seeby had a number of health conditions including a high body mass index, Type 2 diabetes and various skin infections.

Eva Pendreich, from the legal services at South East Coast Ambulance Service, said that on July 20 three calls were made to the ambulance service due to Mrs Seeby falling in the home and crews attended on all occasions.

Mrs Pendreich said the first call at 5.52am crews decided Mrs Seeby had not suffered an injury so left. At 12.52pm Mrs Seeby refused hospital admission, and the third call at 6.59pm resulted in crews attending and Mrs Seeby going into hospital that night.

Dr Henry Alexander, a consultant physician at the DGH that night, said Mrs Seeby had an inflamed liver and her kidney function deteriorated over the following days.

The inquest heard Mrs Seeby died in hospital on July 26 around 6pm.

East Sussex coroner Alan Craze said, “She deteriorated within a short space of time. I don’t see anything wrong in the decisions made.”

Mr Craze ruled Mrs Seeby’s death was accidental due to the fall and that surrounding health conditions contributed.
