One of the other drivers, a 17-year-old girl from Hailsham, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The third driver, a 24-year-old woman from Heathfield, was not injured.

The vehicles were recovered and the road fully re-opened shortly after midnight.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash.

Sergeant Sarah Potter said, “We would like to hear from any witnesses, particularly a woman who was seen driving a dark hatchback-style car and had to leave the scene before police arrived to collect her daughter.
