A SCHEME which helps to support carers will be introduced in Hailsham and across Wealden.
The British Red Cross has announced that the Carers Support Service will help people in Wealden District and is keen to attract volunteers.
A spokesman said, “To ensure we can maintain the high level of care we currently provide, we are looking for caring and responsible volunteers to support unpaid carers in their local area.
“The Carers Support Service helps support both the carer and the person they care for by offering emotional support and practical assistance.
“Our trained volunteers help with light shopping and housework, meal preparation, providing lifts to and from appointments, completing forms, dog walking and rebuilding confidence.
“Our volunteers enable carers to take a well deserved break from their caring role.
“The amount of time you put in will depend on the local need for the service and what time you have available. “Full training will be given and travel and out of pocket expenses will be paid.
“As a carers support volunteer, you will have the rewarding experience of learning new skills and providing vital assistance to people who really need it.”
