Two male officers were both taken to hospital to be treated for facial injuries. One officer was released but the other stayed in for observation overnight.

Detective constable Paul Gray said: “This was an extremely violent attack on two officers who were attending to do their job. They went there to protect the public and had no chance to defend themselves in this unprovoked attack. Walter knocked one of the officers unconscious and punched him repeatedly in the face, it was only when the other officer recovered after being hit himself, he was able to go to the aid of his colleague.

“Thankfully the officers have now returned to work but one had to be kept in overnight to be observed as he had significant facial injuries. Walter pleaded guilty to the offence and is now serving time in prison.”
