Hailsham housing plan gets the green light

Outline planning permission has been granted for a major residential development in Hailsham.

Members of Wealden District Council’s Planning Committee South gave the go-ahead for up to 40 homes on land at Grovelands Primary School, adjacent to Gleneagles Drive

Permission is subject to conditions. An archaeological investigation will have to take place before work cand start.

A geophysical survey of the site has identified a number of anomalies of potential archaeological interest.

This could be of regional significance due to the proximity of a number of Roman, medieval and post-medieval sites.

In the light of the potential loss of heritage assets resulting from development, the area affected should be the subject of a programme of archaeological works.

This will enable any items of historical interest, or archaeological deposits and features disturbed by the proposed works, to be adequately recorded.
