Detectives investigating the theft of cigarettes worth tens of thousands pounds from a delivery van in Hailsham have arrested a man in London.
The 41-year-old man from Mitcham was arrested on suspicion of robbery by Metropolitan Police on Monday evening and was questioned by detectives in Sussex before being released on bail until July 7.
Police are still keen to talk to any witnesses to the robbery at at 7.05am on Thursday May 14, when a gang of men in a white Ford Transit van pulled onto the forecourt of the BP service station forecourt in South Road, Hailsham, as a delivery was being made.
The men ordered the driver to look away from them and then stole bags of cigarettes from his van.
They drove off in their van, which had the registration number VE03 VGG, towards the A22 before stopping in Cacklebury Close. Two of the men then got out of the van and into a silver or grey car before the robbers drove both vehicles away.
