CRICKET CLUB: Indoor training for both juniors and seniors is currently ongoing at Hailsham Community College, with the senior training on Wednesday evenings 6pm to 8pm and the juniors (5 to 16 years old) Thursday evenings 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Eighteen new junior and nine new senior players have become members since we restarted in early January. If you are interested in joining please contact Rob Wilkinson 07980146841 [email protected]. Rob reported that the club is extremely excited with the new pavilion that is close to completion at Roebuck Park. This has been a long term project and will be the finishing touch to a stunning new cricket ground. Kevin Hallett and Ken Dawber have been working round the clock to make sure it is ready for the start of the season and have produced an amazing venue for the third/fourth and Sunday XI. The club is looking forward to the 2016 season with a great deal of optimism with all four Saturday teams in a strong position at the start of the season. The club is committed to continue to strive forward after a period of successful years both on and off the pitch. The juniors are also looking to take the next step after a successful 2015 season and carry that form into the senior matches they play.

SHIP’S LOG: Crew members of the Starship USS Pharaoh turned out to support the Hailsham Old Pavilion Society (HOPS) when it screened Star Trek: The Motion Picture at The Pavilion on February 12 to celebrate 50 years since Star Trek first hit our TV screens in 1966. The USS Pharaoh is an Eastbourne-based Star Trek Group which meets twice a month to discuss episodes of Star Trek and indulge in live action role playing. Their mission at The Pavilion was to join with other Trekkies to raise funds for HOPS which ensures The Pavilion is kept in good repair. CHORAL SOCIETY: Hailsham Choral Society is performing the Mozart Requiem on Saturday March 19 at 7.30pm in All Saints’ Church, Eastbourne accompanied by the Hailsham Symphonia. Tickets are available from Hailsham Camera Centre, Eastbourne Tourist Office or ww.wegottickets.com or on the door.

CORINTHIAN CHURCH: The service on Sunday starts at 11am followed by refreshments, at Primrose Hall. The Medium on this occasion is Kirsty Stead.

COLOUR SHOW: Hailsham Photographic Society has its Audio Visual Extravaganza on Friday March 4 at 7.30pm and Saturday March 5 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm at Hailsham Community Hall. Tickets are £6 from Colin Monk 01435 863110, the Camera Centre or the Nodding Cobbler.

BARN DANCE: Back by popular demand Hailsham FM and Environment Hailsham are jointly promoting an event to blow away the winter blues by announcing the Spring Time Barn Dance starring the ever popular Spinning Jenny Band. The event will be staged on Saturday, March 5 at Grovelands School Hall, from 7pm to 11.30pm. Tickets £10 pp with kids going free. It will be an evening of dancing and fun for all ages with the Spinning Jenny Band, plus additional dance music played by Hailsham FM’s Helen Lawrence. There will be an exclusive raffle and refreshments available. This joint promotion is the first of several planned this year and all money raised will be split between the two organisations.

LIONS CLUB MEETING: Go along and find out more about the Hailsham Lions and what they do on Tuesday. The Hailsham Lions monthly meetings are held at Charles Hunt Centre, Vicarage Field on the first Tuesday of every month and start at 7.30pm. New members welcome. Phone 0845 833 9828 (local).
