The Concert takes place at the Civic Community Hall in Vicarage Lane on Saturday 16 December from 7.30pm and this year, the Society’s retiring collection will be in aid of Eastbourne RNLI and a representative of the charity will give a short introduction to their work. PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY: Thursday’s meeting was the 2nd PDI Competition judged by Mike Warren ARPS

The results were: Swallow Cup - 4 entries, Dee McNab - Keeping in touch. Sussex Shield - 24 entries, Martin Rumary - Fence and Fencibility, David Philips - Eyes on the prize (Short-eared Owl quartering), Steve Nixon - Time Reflection, Richard Goldsmith - Beamish Living History Museum. Albert Hillman Cup - 37 entries. Janice Payne – Molly, Gay Biddlecombe - Rannoch Moor, Ray Beckwith - Owzat!, Marion Creed – Windmill, Roy Broad - Tussling Terns, Rye, Alan Bousfield - Scarlet Hood. All the above go through to the final. David Mills thanked Mike on behalf of all the members for judging. David said that PDI’s are not the easiest format to make judgements but that Mike had done a grand job and his timing was perfect. A very constructive critique, pointing out both the strong and weaker points of each image and making suggestions on how improvements could be made where appropriate which was very helpful and members appreciated this approach.

ART GROUP: South View art groups have just come to the end of another busy term, and already bookings are coming in for the new term in the new year. CHURCH SERVICES: The St Mary’s Hailsham Parish Church services for the Countdown to Christmas start this Sunday 10.30am with Countdown to Christmas - a child friendly telling of the Christmas story, 2.45pm Holy Communion with Carols @ Emmanuel and at 4pm Carols in the Park. On

Thursday 15 at 7pm Lights of Love (St Wilfrid’s Hospice Service), Saturday 17 at 3pm there is a Concert of carols and Christmas music (with Wealden Brass and festive refreshments). Sunday 18 at 8am Holy Communion, 10.30 am Holy Communion 6.30 pm Carols by Candlelight - a service of carols and readings followed by mulled wine and mince pies. Christmas Eve 4pm and 6pm Christingle Family Carol Service - two identical services, choose the time that suits you best, 11pm Holy Communion. FARMERS CHRISTMAS MARKET: From 9 to 12.30 on Saturday 10 December the Hailsham Christmas Farmers’ Market will be at the Cattle Market Site on Market Street with Local Quality Traceable Produce and Crafts.

Come along to meet Father Christmas and listen to the choir from Hailsham Parish Church who will be regaling us with festive hymns and songs. On offer at the Christmas Market are decorative wreaths, seasonal cakes and pastries, hand-made cards, and a selection of gifts, as well as our top-quality meat and prepared meals, ideal for filling a gap over the festive season and for every £10 spent at a stall and in the Market Café you will receive a Free Ticket for our Christmas Raffle. Park free on site, Pick your goods from the range at our stalls, Pack your shopping straight into your car, and Pop in for refreshments to the Market Café. HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The next meeting will be on Wednesday at the Methodist Church Hall, High Street, Hailsham at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Speaker, Richard Goldsmith, will present Hailsham in Old Photographs. An interesting evening, as ‘old timers’ of Hailsham can reminisce, and newcomers can get an insight into how the Town looked, and what has been lost.

DEMELZA: Friends of Demelza were busy recently over a weekend, but not fundraising as is their usual remit. They were helping run the Christmas party being held for some of the children that Demelza Community Team look after. Hailsham Friend, Pam Robinson, said “It was really nice to be able to help with this event and actually interact with some of the children. It inspired me, if I needed it, to work even harder to raise money for them.” The previous weekend Pam was swimming in the Eastbourne Lions Swimathon in aid of Demelza, along with colleague Jan Megan, and raised about £200. Last weekend Demelza were bag-packing at ESK in Eastbourne, dressed as red spotty clowns! If you want to become a volunteer, give Pam call on 01323 844020.

RAMBLES: The long ramble is with Daphne (845045) of 5 miles. Bus to Langley and return walk along the Cuckoo Trail. Short walk with Nobby (440624) which is Holywell to Eastbourne Pier. Please ring either of the walk leaders for details if you would like to go along. All welcome.

CORINTHIAN CHURCH: This Sunday there is a service at Primrose Hall, London Road at 11am followed by refreshments. The Medium on this occasion is Bob Mana. Next week, 18th the Medium is Rev John Collins.

U3A: The Christmas Party is on Tuesday in the Community Hall at 2pm. All welcome. Visitors £2.

CAROLS IN THE PARK: This lovely family event is on Sunday in Hailsham Recreation Ground, Western Road at 4pm. Bring your own chair and torch and join with local churches for an evening of Christmas carol singing followed by refreshments in the hall of the Free Church next door.

RAPUNZEL: Get your tickets now for this fast sell-out week of Panto fun by Hailsham Theatres. Performances run from 25 to 29 January at Hailsham Pavilion.

AUCTION: Tomorrow the Healthy Living Club will be at Hailsham Street Market with tombola and guess the weight of the cake competition from 8.30am. This will be followed by an auction at 1.30pm in the Hailsham Club.

COMPASSIONATE FAIR: This is a Christmas fair with a difference. There are over 30 stalls suitable for everyone including veggies and vegans! There will be crafts and handmade gifts, magician One Eyed Jack gourmet food and vegan cream cakes, live Irish music from Ballyregan Boys, free face painting for all ages, free talks on animals. The event is in support of 8 animal charities and takes place on Sunday between 10am and 3pm in the Civic Community Hall, Vicarage Lane, next to Freedom Leisure. Visit www.hailshamxmasfair.co.uk. BONFIRE BINGO: Support your local Bonfire Society next Friday 16 at the Charles Hunt Centre 7pn for eyes down at 730pm.

DEMENTIA FRIENDLY: There is a film screening at Hailsham Pavilion on White Christmas on Friday 16 December at 2pm. Doors open 1.30pm. Tickets are £3 and Carers are free of charge.

HOME ALONE: If you will be on your own this Christmas day, you are invited to join others at The Link Coffee Shop, Market Square, Hailsham for Christmas lunch. Places must be booked, so if you would like to go along, please all in at The Link for a form or phone Kay on 01323 441079 during working hours. Limited transport is available if you cannot get there any other way, please let them know. The coffee shop will be open from 11.30am for coffee and lunch will be served at 12.30pm. There will be various amusements during the afternoon and will finish the day with the Queen’s speech and a piece of Christmas cake at 3.30pm. There is no charge for the day, but donations are welcome for Tear Fund.
