Eight people were rescued by Eastbourne Lifeboat after getting cut off by the rising tide below cliffs at Beachy Head.
The group had planned their expedition and consulted tide tables but some of the group were wearing flip-flops and struggled over the rocky terrain. Progress was slow and they were cut off as darkness fell. One of the group was sent ahead to try and get a mobile signal and dialled 999. Both the town’s lifeboats were launched and crew helped the cold and frightened group back to shore.
