Grant means Seaford bowls club's extension project can go ahead

It has awarded the club a grant of £50,000, the maximum grant we the Trust can award, through the Landfill Communities Fund. It will fund the installation of the new extension at the club’s facility at Crouch Gardens, East Street.

It will house much-needed changing facilities for the club. These are currently located in a separate small building next to the clubhouse. The extension will also have a room suitable for short mat bowling, table tennis and other social activities.

The grant is one of 27 awarded by the Trust’s board to community and environmental projects in England, with a grant total of more than £860,000. Since 1998 it has awarded more than £3.1m to 125 projects in Sussex.

The Trust will now start working with the club to finalise the scheme’s details, including its start date, so that work can begin as soon as possible.

The Chairman of the club’s Development Sub-Committee, Derek Budd, said, “Our club is a flourishing one, with around 100 members. Member numbers have increased in recent years and our clubhouse is now too small. The new extension that this grant will fund will let us expand, offer new activities, and play new teams.”

The Executive Director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Paul Taylor, said, “The club must be congratulated on securing this grant. We considered a record number of compliant applications during this round, so this project managed to succeed in a very competitive environment. We look forward to seeing work start.”
