DIGITAL media design students studying on the Foundation Degree programme at Sussex Downs College held their graduation exhibition recently at the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne.
The exhibition, called Level Up, celebrated the work from all 10 students on the course and ranged from book cover illustrations to a selection of animations for the Charity AFT - The Association for Family Therapy.
The students had all been given testimonials and case studies in order to communicate the work of the charity through a series of animations.
The two-year course covers animation, visual communication, design for the web and screen based design and various other modules.
This allows the students to gain valuable techniques needed for their continuing development in their careers.
Students are encouraged to develop entrepreneurial skills by entering competitions and sourcing clients for projects. Emma Prentice created a brand identity for a new muesli and porridge breakfast cereal range, coming up with a logo and packaging for the company called Oomf! It was so delighted it commissioned Emma to design the company’s website, which also features online purchasing. The product ‘Benched Pressed Oats’ is now available to purchase.
Emma, like other students, will complete her BA next year at university, and hopes to start a career in the digital design industry.
A number of companies including Firebrand Design Consultancy who specialise in branding, marketing communications and web design sponsored the Level Up exhibition.
Places are still available for a September 2012 start on the Foundation Degree course, for further details go to www.sussexdowns.ac.uk
