HAILSHAM Old Pavilion Society raised more than £1,500 for the much-loved cinema through a very successful golf day.

On September 2 golfers converged on Willlingdon for the society’s annual golf day.

The sun shone as cinema manager Paul Nunney welcomed the Golfers to the 1st tee and sent them on their way round the splendid Willingdon golf Course.

A total of 19 teams took part this year and as ever play had its ups and downs.

Players returned to the clubhouse to share stories of great shots and bad luck.

It was hot and thirsty work and the players were keen to tuck into their lunch and liquid refreshment before settling down to the prize-giving.

This year’s winners were four young lads who went under the name of Shank a Lot. They were the last group out and produced a shock result.

The lads had competed in the competition two years ago and had come last. So this was an amazing turn of the fortune for them.

Captain Rob Stone marshalled his team of Jack Divall, Simon Johnson and John Fielding to an unlikely but popular win.

The day raised more than £1500 that including a fantastic response to the grand raffle.

Competition organiser Tom Chapman would like to thank all the golfers who supported the day and those who donated raffle prizes.

A special thanks goes to out three sponsors - SLS Fabrications LTD, Fieldskill Conquest Ltd and the ever-reliable June Bourne and all the helpers who came along that ensured the event would be a success.
