Past captains of Eastbourne Downs Golf Club have presented a cheque for more than £1,400 to the local RNLI.
John and Marilyn Boniface, attended Eastbourne Lifeboat Station and presented the cheque for £1,428.34 raised by the Downs members at a club auction.
John said, “Having had past family members involved in the lifeboat service and lived locally most of my life I realise the importance of the work carried out by the crews here in Eastbourne.
“I have always admired the professionalism and often heroic actions that these crew members undertake and, as they rely on public support, I am pleased to be able to make this donation.”
John said that his grandad and great-uncles were involved with the RNLI many years ago which is why he had chosen to support the charity.
He said, “My wife and I enjoyed learning all about the running and practicalities of the way the lifeboat is run during our visit.
“I think what came over most to me was the sheer professionalism that has encompassed the institution since the days that my grandad and his brothers were involved.”
Dr Colin McKee, chairman of the Lifeboat management group, accepted the cheque and thanked Eastbourne Downs Golf Club members for their continued support.
Lifeboat coxswain Mark Sawyer and other crew members also attended the cheque presentation to meet John and Marilyn.
