After a successful event last year, the family event returns to Eastbourne for the second time. It is a celebration for cancer survivors, who are treated as the guests of honour. This year, a high tea will be provided for survivors and they are welcome to bring a friend or carer. Cancer survivors can register for the event free of charge.

Janet Geering, event chair, said, “Local businesses continue to generously support this event, and we are extremely appreciative of their kind assistance. “I rang up a local skip company Haulaway, to ask if they would provide a free skip for the venue, and not only did they agree to do that, but they sent a cheque for £200 to help us reach our annual goal of £30,000.

“Eastbourne Sports Park are providing free meeting facilities. Beau-K has donated flowers and Camilleri Kitchen the cake for the survivors’ celebratory lunch.”

The Gym Eastbourne has also agreed to help. They carried out the warm up last year and have again donated one year’s annual membership to help boost sales of raffle tickets.

James Smith, general manager of The Gym Eastbourne, said, “We got involved as we believe in building a strong community feel and working together.

“We wanted to help raise awareness and support the brave people who have survived through this terrible disease. Having lost friends and family to cancer, I believe that we need to do what is necessary to help others survive.”

The event, which will include food, entertainment, games and activities for all ages, will take place from noon on July 2 to noon on July 3. It takes place over 24 hours to signify cancer does not sleep.
