Sussex Police has not released details of the accident yet but Mr Sargeant, a former pupil at St Catherine’s College who lived in Eastbourne, has been named locally as losing his life in the crash.

An ambulance spokesperson said, “The car left the road. No other vehicles were involved. Police are investigating.”

A GoFundMe campaign was set up on Sunday and has so far raised more than £7,000 for Mr Sargeant’s family.

Jacob’s friend and organiser of the online campaign Jack Wood said, “We are raising money for Jacobs family to support them through this time.

“Never in a million years we would thought to be writing this.

“There was never a time you didnt put a smile on everyone’s face, your presence brought so much happiness to so many people.

“You will be missed by many, a man who truly gave everyone time and had the kindest heart.

“Just shy of your 18th birthday, we will also be holding a send off on June 6 2020.
