Fire crews were called to the family home when the fire broke out around 5.15pm. The fire service was there until 3am on Friday morning.

Katie Louise and Rae Madigan have set up a funding page for their colleague, Chris Berry, and his family – which includes three daughters aged between two and 11-years-old.

The page was set up on Friday morning, which has already raised more than £5,000 for the young family.

She said, “They are the loveliest couple who go out of their way for anyone.

“The three girls are happy bubbly kids who are thriving in life.

“Being so close to Christmas and with Covid, we are trying to help in any way possible.”

Currently the family are staying with relatives.

Katie and Rae are surprised by how well the funding page has done.

“We’re beyond surprised by the support we’ve had,” they said.

“We hoped to raise £5,000 and we honestly thought that may have been too high.

“If we can get the word out there, further than Eastbourne, it would be amazing!”

As well as this, the family have been inundated by support and donations of everything from clothing and toys, to household items and furniture.

A family friend, Michaela Frances said, “The family are hugely grateful for everything. The support has been phenomenal and really overwhelming.”
