A war veteran has had a special home visit from the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Peter Field, to celebrate receiving a Légion d’honneur medal.
The 94-year-old resident, John Haydon, welcomed the Lord Lieutenant Peter Field to his home at Riverbourne House, which is managed by Eastbourne Homes, last week.
The medal is the highest honour that the French government can give.
John received it for his role in the Normandy invasion during the Second World War.
Snow prevented the Lord Lieutenant from attending a previous presentation at the town hall by the consul honoraire of France, Captain Francois Jean, so he made a special visit to John’s home. John is pictured with Mr Field, his daughter Tricia and son-in-law Robin.
